Here we go again...

Justin had a business dinner tonight with T-Systems, of course he was going out for a nice steak dinner at Chamberlains and I served up some steamy fresh out of the freezer Eggo waffles for dinner. Justin likes to send me a picture of his nice dinners when he goes out so I thought I would beat him to the punch and I sent him a picture of our waffles. So of course I soon receive a picture of his yummy looking steak and mashed potatoes. Yea, my mouth watered.

At 9:02 Justin sent me a text telling me that they were about to smoke a cigar. I responded back asking him to be sure to shower when he gets home :). At 9:28 I get another text from him, which is strange, he usually does not text me until he is on his way home... Instead it read, "please don't freak out, my jaw locked and I am at Plano Presby". I of course go into panic mode and try and figure out who I can call at 9:30 to come and stay with the kids so I can go up to the hospital. I can't call Justin because he of course cannot talk seeing as how his mouth was stuck open! I text him and he tells me not to worry and not to come up, he will be home in a couple of hours. So of course I except that because this is the fourth time it has happened and it usually takes about two or three hours for them to fix it and then he is home.

I could not sit still and could not stand not being there. By this time it is 10:30. I decided to call Jason and see if he is still awake. Thank goodness he was and said that he would run up there and stay with him. I felt somewhat relieved but still wanted to be there. Jason kept texting or calling to fill me in every 20-30 minutes. They finally got him back to the ER and gave him Benedryl, (this usually helps him relax so they can pop his jaw back into place), except this time it did not. They were going to try again by putting him to sleep but could not try again until midnight since he had just had dinner, you know... they yummy steak he sent me a picture of).

Finally midnight came and they tried again and Jason said that it did not work so they were calling an oral surgeon who was on call. According to the oral surgeon this was "NOT" an emergency and could wait until morning. Did I mention the doctors do not trickle in until around 7:00 in the morning. SERIOUSLY *&%*$(%&(# that is me calling the on call doctor a few choice words! So as Jason keeps texting me to keep me informed I am getting more and more upset that I am not there and that it is getting later and later and he is still in so much pain. At 3:30 am Jason texts me and tells me that they are admitting him to keep him on pain medicine until morning and the doctor can get his lazy ON CALL butt out of bed and see him.

At 4:00 am Jason calls to ask some questions because Justin cannot answer them obviously. they need to know what blood pressure medicine he is on and how many mg he takes. His blood pressure was very high and they needed to give him something.

After getting all the questions answered Jason then goes home for a couple of hours and will be back by 6:30 so he can be there when the surgeon gets there. I got the kids up and ready for school and was at the hospital by 7:30 and had just missed the oral surgeon. They were going to book an OR to get him fixed up.

As I walked in the room I felt horrible, I flashed forward a few years and could hardly stand to look at Justin in so much pain. Just imagine your mouth being open all the way PLUS another inch or so for that many hours. I asked if they knew when he would be going down to the OR and of course they had no idea... NOT HELPFUL!

Thank goodness for Aunt Kelly who had the day off and came to pick Sophia up for a fun day with Ben.

I asked Jason if he knew the oral surgeons name and he told me his card was sitting on the table. I grabbed it and I KNEW THE GUY, well, not personally but knew of him because we would refer patients to him from Dr. Buskins office AND his office was right next door to my moms office. I called her and told her that Dr. Pevelka was going to be doing the surgery so she went next door to find out when. They told her that it was scheduled for noon. Good, now we are getting somewhere. The nurse came in at 10:30 to tell us that they would be coming to get him around 11:00 to take get him prepped.

They came and got him around 11:30 and took him down. Nina and I went down to the OR waiting room and waited with mom, dad and Jason for the surgeon to come out. He came out and told us that he was doing great. They had to paralyze him and stop his breathing for 60 seconds and then move his jaw back into place. As soon as they brought him back Justin looked at the doctor, shook his hand and told him that he was the man! They wheeled him back to his room and by the time I got up there he was talking to the nurse like nothing had ever happened. Who would have known his mouth was stuck open for SIXTEEN hours?

The doctor said he would be back around 5:00 to check on him and then discharge him. Well of course 5:00 came and went and it was 7:30 before he got there to release him and then the paper work had to be filed and signed. Dr. Pevelka told us that if it happens again to call his office and he or his partner are always on call and if he can get to him in 20 minutes or so then he could probably fix it in his office. How nice that would have been...

We were thinking back to the last time this happened and it was 11 years ago. The two times prior were a couple of years before that so he was lucky to have gone this long without it happening. If you are wondering how his mouth got stuck open it is because he yawned. If he is relaxed and opens too wide he can feel it coming out of place and close his mouth real quick... except for this time he did not make it. He drove himself to the ER and wrote a note in his notes on the iPhone and showed it to the lady at the desk. I am sure that lady went home and told her family about some crazy guy coming in with is mouth stuck wide open and drooling everywhere.

He was back to his self Friday seeing as how he played golf! He is just a little tight and sore and will be on a steroid for a week.

Jason, I cannot say THANK YOU enough! You rock dude! You too Kel for watching Sophia and Nina for picking the boys up and watching them until we got home!
