Sophia's Class Party

Sophia had her  Fall Party at school today.  I decided to sign up for room mom because no one else had.  I figured I had some spare time to help out... I made Sophia a scrap tutu and made it a little short but I will know next time.  She FINALLY got to wear the shoes that Daphne got her for her birthday and she was so excited.  They were not her size until now.

Halloween

Trick or Treat!  We started off our night across the street with all the neighborhood kids for the annual group picture.  Noah came over to trick or treat too.  The kids had a blast sorting their candy and could not beleive how many M&M's they got.

Baby

Sophia got a baby doll when she was born from Mimi.  She LOVES this doll and named her "baby".  She takes her everywhere and it is so dirty and disgusting and it says that you can spot clean it.  Baby's bottom half used to be white... you would never be able to tell from the pics.  This thing needs to be torched!  You have to sanitize after holding her, in fact, you might want to go wash after reading this.  HA!    Sophia calls Baby's hair, "fire" (see pic below)

Jonah's Mystery Book Project

Jonah had his first big project due for 3rd grade.  He had to read a mystery book and do a report on it.  He read The Mystery Of The Haunted Cabin from The Boxcar Kids Collection.  Let's break it down...

  • He read the book
  • mom asked questions he could not answer
  • mom read the book out loud to him
  • he recapped what he heard after each chapter
  • We could not put the book down, even Luke was hooked
  • Jonah told me what he wanted his "scene" to be for the report so mom went to google and got some things printed for him to cut out and hit the scrapbook paper pile.
  • dad read the book
  • Jonah and dad worked on the oral part of the book
  • Jonah worked his tail off with NO COMPLAINTS (except his hand was tired from writing so much)
His project was due today but he will not present it until Wednesday.  I cannot wait to hear how it goes.    He had fun working on it.  At times we had to stop him because he was getting too many details in it and it would not make sense.  We were excited to see his excitement after it was all finished.

So proud of our Jonah Bear!

Yea We Did!

We were headed to Fieldhouse for Jonah's basketball game and Sophia wanted her costume on... over her clothes with shoes that don't fit! We pick our battles folks!

Pit Paint

I cannot believe it... The time has come for Jonah to start wearing pit paint aka deodorant. Last night after his basketball game we came home and were getting ready for showers. I walked by Jonah and thought I was going to vomit. I asked him if he smelled something and he said, "yea, that's me". My response... "Come here" as I raised his arm and sniffed. Gag, vomit, cough.

Why, why, WHY as a parent do I respond to situations like that? I am the mom that holds out my hand when a child says they are going to vomit. The other day I was taking Sophia to the bathroom, we were pulling her pants down, she started peeing before we could get on the potty and what does this mom do????? I HOLD OUT MY HANDS AND CATCH IT! As soon as it hit my hand I pulled away wondering what on earth I was thinking. Why is that my first response?

Back to my point... This morning before school Jonah put some pit paint on. He giggled because it tickled and told me his arm pits felt sticky and weird.

My biggest "baby" is growing up!

Carah's Baby Shower

This weekend was Carah's baby shower. Leslie flew in from DC to surprise her. It has been way too long since we were all together! We were missing Stefanie and Jill. Can't wait for another cousin to be here.

Sports

Sports... When I hear this word my entire body starts to convulse and I feel ill. It's not because I am not a sports fan or that I do not like to sweat... it is the fact that both boys have a complete MELTDOWN when it's time for practice or a game.

They will STOMP down the stairs, uttering who knows what under their breath, shoulders slumped, arms swinging all while groaning. This is just when we tell them it's time to get their uniforms on. They lay down on the ground kicking their legs, hitting their stuff and proceed to tell us just HOW STUPID SOCKS are. they have bumps! (no worries folks, we get to hear this line every morning while getting socks and shoes on). We start the process at LEAST 30 minutes before its time to walk out the door so the boys will have time to throw these fits.

It is the same old thing week after week and it is a WHIP. It is physically exhausting and now mom and dad are in a horrible mood too. The one not playing sits and gripes the ENTIRE time saying how bored they are, what can they do and how much longer and what's for dinner, blah, blah blah.

So, if you see The Morton's at a sport function, please give us a pat on the back and tell us your glad to see we made it...and that the boys are alive! :)

I would personally enjoy a stick in the eye, eating seafood, drinking iced tea and sitting in a sauna rather than doing this FOUR times a week.

Neighborhood Block Party

The neighborhood had their annual block party today and we actually got to attend this year because we had NO games today.  There were pony rides, a petting zoo, a firetruck tour and a train ride.  Sophia was in HEAVEN with the petting zoo and fell in love with a bunny she could actually touch.  She can never seem to catch the two that live in our backyard.  She was not so sure about the pony ride but made it until the end.

When we got home from the party Meemaw came to watch the kiddos and Justin and I went to Chad and Cole's house and enjoyed a nice, peaceful steak dinner.  It was so nice to enjoy dinner with no kiddos asking for something every 3.5 seconds.

Loading up... wait for it...

Screaming bloody murder and got out...
