Mockingbird Nest

A couple of weeks ago we noticed two mockingbirds hanging around the backyard and on the porch.  We have a bakers rack with baskets on it right by the backdoor.  They made a nest and we got to see them make the nest and the eggs.  I am kicking myself because I did not get a picture of the eggs!  Within a week four birds hatched and we got to watch them until they left the nest.  It was really cool to watch them.  We would get up in the morning and check on them and see momma bird feeding them.

Friday night around dinner the four birds were in the nest.  Within a couple of hours two of them were gone.  Saturday morning the two left were being fed by momma.  We watched as momma was flying around and catching bugs mid air to feed the babies.  It was really awesome to watch her catch the bugs and get them ready to feed the babies.

Within minutes we looked and there was only one bird left.  Then about 3 minutes later the last little baby jumped from the nest onto the ground and started spreading his wings then hopped off.  He went to the corner of the yard and found a bush to get in.

We are going to miss seeing these birds we have been watching them for a couple of weeks through out the day.
