Dr. Kaplan wanted to make sure all of his organs were functioning properly and wanted to check the size of his heart due to a heart murmur he heard at one of our visits.
When we got to the office they strapped Seth to this board. They eventually put his arms over his head and put those little wing things up so he could not move. (look at pic below). He was NOT happy about that.
It also did not help that we had to skip a feeding and he was starving since it was an hour past his feeding. I know... how could he possibly be starving, look at him! Ha
They snapped a quick x-ray and then started the upper GI test. They gave him a bottle of Barium... sounds fantastic, I know. He sucked that stuff down and got so mad when they took it away. They were watching him swallow and then waited for it to empty into his small intestine.
When they were done with the test we got him off the board and he was a sweaty mess, he gets that from his momma :).
So, now that we spent thousands of dollars and put him through that.... drum roll please...
the conclusion is reflux! The reflux is causing him to cough. I cut him off after 10 min. of eating and have from day one since he spits up ALL the time.
I feel like all I do is change my clothes and his, my sheets and mop up the floor. I have learned to aim him outward while burping him! Thank goodness for travertine floors.
Dr. Kaplan told me to nurse on one side at a time for a couple of weeks to see if that helps. If not, we will figure something else out. So, if you see me, no need to tilt your head... Your eyes are not deceiving you, I am lopsided!
