122 miles from Ft. Collins to Winter Park, this trip is going to be a piece of cake... yea right, we are The Mortons! LOL
We wake up at 4:00 am to hit the road by 5:00 to give us plenty of time to get the kids there by 8:00 to get them fitted for ski boots, skis and helmets. Ski school starts at 9:15 so we should have PLENTY of time getting there.
Oh wait, have you been reading my blog to date? That is NOT the way The Mortons roll... :)
We pull out of the drive at 5:06, not bad... Jonah rides with Brian and Daph and Piper and Ansley gets in our car. We are cruising along and about 6:00 Daph shoots me a text telling me that I get Jonah back, he is barfing. Yes, barfing. We pull over for coffee and get Jonah in our car and poor baby does NOT look good. We arm him with barf bags and he did barf a couple more times but said he felt better.
We are cruising along up the mountain and then at 7:16 come to a stop, literally a stop. We even put the car in park. There is an avalanche and they are cleaning up the road. By this time Jonah is barfing AGAIN and says he has to poop. Really dude... we are on the side of a mountain STOPPED. Thank goodness for the portable potty mommy keeps in the car. I pull it out and Jonah sits down in the floor board to poop and as he is stinking up the entire car he is barfing at the same time. HOW can this poor kid not feel better now? Thank goodness we had the gypsy rack on the back of the truck because Justin tied to bag of poop on so we did not have to keep it in the car. After sitting for 45 min. the road was open! Let's roll...
We had dressed the kids in their long underwear and had their bibs and coats packed so all we had to do when we got there was put those on and drop them off a ski school.
We pull into the parking garage and unload the kids with their bibs, coats and gloves. We have no idea where we have to drop them off for ski school. We finally found it and it was the FURTHEST place from where we parked, go figure. We get in line and since we pre registered it should have gone smoothly. I get to the computer and fill out the boys height and weight and decided that Justin can handle it from there and I am going to drop Sophia off in childcare. I go and drop her off and come back to check on the boys and they have their helmets and getting fitted for their boots. We walk over to get skis and everyone but us has paper work.
I go and ask questions and the guy tells me that he has been waiting on us. Apparently the boys were supposed to go one way and the parent the other but no one informed Justin of that. I am flustered from the puke, poop and avalanche fest and I was not feeling 100% myself! Not sure if it was the fact I was dumping Sophia off in childcare for the FIRST TIME EVER or it was because I was having a heat stroke with all the ski gear on in the building that was too small and packed with 400 people.
They call my name in line and they are telling me everything I pre registered for and asking me questions that I really do not think should have been asked, a huge waste if time. The lady finally gets to the point and asks if I would like to rent the helmet for another day other than for just the lesson. I tell her yes and she asks when I would like to return it. Folks, this is where I loose my cool. I have NEVER lost it and gone off on someone but something came over me and I LOST IT! When she asks what day I would like to return the helmet I responeded with, "what is today", she replied, you tell me and you can return it any day that you want. I asked again what day it was and she responded with the same thing, maam you pick the day, you just tell me. I calmly looked at her and said, "maam, I need to know what day it is and again, she gave the same response.
I was DONE! I flipped my lid! I told her that I needed to know what DAY it was so I could tell her when we were going to return them. I knew that we were skiing two days, taking a day off then skiing a third day. For the life of me I could NOT remember what day it was. She then responded with, "its the 14th" REALLY??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME LADY, I don't care what the date is... I need to KNOW THE DAY! I proceeded to tell her that I had been in the car for two days with two barfing children and I had NO idea what day it was. She looked at me and apologized and FINALLY told me that it was Monday. I felt a tear come to my eye and told her I was sorry for yelling and that I was sorry and that I would need the helmets until Thursday.
Thank goodness THAT was over. So, we dropped the kids off at ski school and I had to go and find my ski pants that somehow got repacked in the car... somewhere. After finding them we could go and get Justin and I's skis. This is no easy process. It takes a good hour by the time you get boots, skis and poles.
FINALLY, to the lift we go. By the time we got to the first lift it was 11:00. I was already beat and did not even really want to ski. Of course I did and had a blast. Brian, Daph, Justin and I all went up together for a few runs and then had to pick the kids up from ski school at 2:45 and the little ones up from childcare at 3:00. When I got to Luke's class he was hysterical coming down the slope. He was exhausted and his feet hurt. Shocker... I know. Then by the time Jonah joined us, he was in tears too. They were tired and their feet hurt.
I went to get Sophia and they said that she did GREAT! They told me that she did not have a very long nap at all and I asked how long she slept and they told me an hour and a half. REALLY, she sleeps maybe 30 min. for me. ha ha ha They said she was awesome. I was relieved.
By the time we got all the kids we went stored our skis and went to find the condo. We got there and unloaded the cars and got settled in. We went to dinner over at Julianne and Carley's condo for tacos. We then headed back to our place for bed.
